Joseph D'souza: Chess Coach & Trainer, Chess player, Arbiter & Tournament Organiser.

  • As a Chess Teacher,Coach & Trainer: - Joseph D'souza was the official coach of Pune University team which won All India Inter University Chess Championship at BITS-Pilani, Rajasthan in Jan 1999. All the players in the team were students of Joseph D'souza's Chess Academy.
  • Represented India as Coach cum Manager of Indian Blind team in the world junior chess championship in Pontevedra, Spain in Aug-Sept., 2003. The team stood fifth. (was appointed official coach by the All India Chess Federation for the Blind). Joseph D'souza was the part of the Indian Chess delegation  (appointed as Deputy Coach by the All India Chess Federation ) in the Chess Olympiad in Mallorca,Spain in Sept. 2004. He also attended Chess Coaching & Training Seminars during the Olympiad in Spain. He participated in a special course for Chess Coaching & Training in Schools and Chess Coaching for Children & Youth and was awarded a certificate for the same (Spain, 2004).

  • He has developed several International (FIDE) Rated Players, National & State Champions & National Qualifiers.
  • He was honored by the prestigious "ROCHESS" award for his achievements in Coaching at Mumbai in 1998, Maheshwaranand Saraswati Award in 2004 & Rotary Award for Excellence in Chess Coaching in 2004 in Pune.


As a Chess Player
Title By World Chess Federation FIDE (International Chess Federation) Candidate Master :
JOSEPH D'SOUZA is a World Chess Federation Rated Player. He has qualified and represented Maharashtra in the Nationals. He is the only player to win Central Maharashtra Chess Tournament 4 Times & Inter-Industrial Chess Championship 3 years in a row. He has won several Chess tournaments & also won prizes in International Rating & All India Open Chess Tournaments.


As a Chief Arbiter & Tournament Director : Joseph D'souza has officiated as Arbiter in more than 250 Chess Tournaments, which include International (FIDE) Rating Tournaments, National Championships, Classical, Rapid & Blitz Chess Tournaments.


As an Organiser : Joseph D'Souza has organized more than 150 Chess Tournaments. He was Organising Secretary & Chief Co-Ordinator of India's First Super Grandmasters (Category XVI) Tournament which was held at Pune in Sept. 2004.
